Do you comply?

Scotland - March 2006 - The Smoking, Health and Social Care (Scotland) Act 2005 bans your employees, customers and visitors from smoking within you business' or organisation's premises if they are wholly or substantially enclosed - this even includes previously designated 'smoking rooms'! As an employer, to comply with the new law you will need to take measures to ensure staff, customers and visitors are aware on the law and that they do not smoke on the premises.

England - 1st July 2007 - With the implementation of the smoke-free elements of the Health Act 2006, from 6am on the 1st July 2007, vitually all enclosed public places and workplaces will become smoke-free environments. This will include offices, factories, shops, pubs, bars, restaurants, membership clubs, public transport and work vehicles that are used by more than one person. The law will also mean that indoor smoking rooms, still common in workplaces, will no longer be allowed. Anyone wishing to smoke will have to go outside.

Wales & NI - April 2007 - The Welsh assembly has recently issued an implementation date for the smoking ban which is 2nd April 2007. Meaning that both Northern Ireland and Wales will bring in legislation banning smoking in enclosed public spaces in April 2007. This will mean no lighting up in the workplace, pubs or working men's clubs.
