GOOD NEWS! Ampoule Opener by Anant Ghelani (Loughborough University)

A Practice Nurse (LC) and I tried out an MMR vaccine bottle with our Ampoule opener at a local surgery yesterday. The ampoule slid in to the barrel easily but was slightly loose. When the central blue choke was raised the vaccine bottle stayed firm in place and the rubber top was easily accessible for reconstituting the lyophilised vaccine (powder) with a needle attached to a syringe containing sterile (supplied) solvent and the Ampoule opener top moved to a side.

Emmerdale Drama - Would you know what do with an Electric Shock Victim? Last nights episode of Emmerdale showed businesswoman Megan Macey at the centre of a life or death drama after teenager Sean Spencer suffers a severe electric shock. He decided to break into his former home Brooke Cottage and to re-decorate it in his own way, smashing it all up including the wall lights which led to him receiving an electric shock and then cardiac arrest.

New strain of bird flu (H7N9) in China

Last week Chinese authorities announced the first case of a new strain of bird flu in the eastern province of Fujian. The deadly virus has now spread to China, which has resulted in 23 deaths.
